Thought for the Day   #114

Psalm 84:10   (New American Standard Bible)

“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

The pressures of the Babylonian system often cause we, of the house of Israel to lose focus on who we are. Lifestyles of the ungodly become a treacherous trap. Our hearts begin to covet the possessions of the world. We become encased in the glitter and illusions of riotous, ungodly living. We equate the possessions of the world as a standard for happiness and success. Our dreams are consumed with compelling effort. Climbing to the “top” and being successful becomes our obsession.

Have we forgotten who we are? We are his chosen remnant, the people of his covenant. We are the son’s of God. We have access to the storehouse of His abundance.

David had found the key to fulfillment. Joy and happiness was his possession. He was aware of who he was and whom he served. David had discovered the truth of his heritage. The power of his Lord and the value of His promise were absolute. He was able to declare with full appreciation: ”One day in your courts is better than a thousand outside.”

Just being in the light of God’s presence for one day was more glorious than spending a thousand in Babylon’s lifestyle. The provision of the Lord is more than sufficient. His protection and covering is absolute.

Fellowship and unity with our Heavenly Father is our most valued possession!   God’s relationship with David belongs to us also. Nothing is so sweet as living in the light of his righteousness.  We are a new creation. Old things are passed away. New things have come. (2 Corinthians 5:17) We have left the life of sin and bondage behind. The purity and righteousness of Christ saturates our entire being. We are the Sons of God. Our Father delights to do good to those who love him. He blesses those who serve him.

His mighty arm strikes the crushing blow against the wicked. His shield stands before us against their fiery darts.  They come to battle to find only absolute defeat.  The great light of His Word and Spirit expose their evil collusion. Our enemies will not over throw us.

Our Prayer:

Thank you; Father, for your courts of peace and tranquility. Thank you for your great arm and shield of provision and protection. May my discouragement and heartache be lost in the glorious beauty of your presence. Help me to turn from this world’s wicked ways. I reject my pessimistic fear. I wish to stand upon my “Covenant” birthright. Help me to live in unwavering faith.

I choose to acknowledge you, O God.  You are my covering and my shield. You keep me from danger. You are my provider. I wish to dwell in the temple of your presence and walk uprightly in your power and strength. I hunger to walk in the purity of my new life in Christ Jesus. Help me to abide in your presence continually. I shall serve you with joy. Amen.
