Thought for the Day†† #115
Proverbs 4:10-13† †(New American Standard Bible)
Hear, my son, and accept my sayings and the years of your life will be many. I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; and if you run, you will not stumble. Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.
Note: You may not be a parent. You are touching someoneís life. Let the following thought encourage you to be an example to others, as parents should be to their children. Some one is watching you. How do you impact their life?
Most parents are interested in giving proper direction to their children. They draw upon their knowledge and experiences of life. The understanding derived from daily situations is of great value. Share it.
God must be the foundation of every home. Godly parents have that driving urgency to prepare their offspring for living both on earth, and eternity. We rejoice in their victories.† We agonize over their defeats. We pray they will not fail. Our fervent desire that they live for God is intense.
Solomon, to whom God gave wisdom greater than any man, was deeply concerned that his son would find the secret to victorious living. He realized that worldly temptations are many.† Carnal lusts are a constant problem. The person who yields to them will have a miserable life. His sonís life would be cut short, should he fail to abide in the wonderful righteousness of God. He desired to impart the hidden mysteries of God deep within the heart of his son.
The Godly example of dedicated parents is the most powerful teaching tool we have. Our decisions, attitudes, and general conduct must be saturated his Word and his Spirit. They have powerful influence upon our children.† Donít be deceived. Our children know when we speak one thing and do another. They have little or no respect for such a parent. Solomon was not perfect, but he loved the way of the Lord. Neither are we, but be assured that your children will honor an honest heart, and godly commitment.
God looks upon each of us as his sons. He has far greater concern for us than any human father can have for their children. His wisdom revealed in the book of Proverbs has been preserved for our benefit. The Word of God given to Solomon is ours. It was recorded that we might have the benefit of truth and wisdom. We can instill these powerful formulas and guidelines in our children.
Dear God, Help me live in the purity and righteousness of Jesus, my Lord. Please help me to be the example that will preserve my children and keep them under your covenant. I pray that they will always experience the wonders of your Word. Help them to know the sweet fellowship of your Spirit and to accept your redemption.†
Keep them from being deceived by sin. Preserve them in the times of temptation and trial. Instill your love and truth into their heart and mind. Let your great arm of protection keep and preserve them. Help them to keep your Covenant. I Pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my Redeemer. Amen.
