Thought for the Day

John 16:13  (New American Standard Bible)

13“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”

What a wonderful promise!

We are often confronted with a portion of truth wrapped in a blanket of distortion or outright falsehood. Even the most skilled and educated can be led astray. The enemy uses this method to bring confusion, deception and diversion upon those who would serve the Lord.

Many of the House of Israel, as well as unbelievers who have a hunger to worship the true God, have been totally blinded. Many have been drawn into false doctrine and cult religions or become entrenched in a compromised form of so-called “Christianity”. There are many teachings that claim to be of God but deny his power. They have been desensitized to truth, actually believing the demonic lies they hear every day.

We can know the truth!  When Jesus ascended unto the Father in the clouds, he sent the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. (Acts 2) He has the ability to sort the truth from all the chaff and corruption that we hear daily. The Spirit causes truth to become vividly clear. It becomes easy to understand and accept. Truth stands on its own merit, unchangeable and steadfast. It is the foundation of our faith. Truth is indestructible and needs no defense or support.

The secret of knowing truth! Abide in Jesus as he abides in the Father. (John 15:7)

Let us ask of God. His Spirit always directs those who walk in close fellowship with Him. We as Christians can rest assured that the Holy Spirit does guide us into all truth. God tells us that we can have wisdom by asking him for it. (James 1:5) Anyone, even the vilest sinner, can ask God to reveal himself. He will not deny himself to those who earnestly seek him. (Jeremiah 29:13)

We can trust him to reveal truth and direct our lives when confusion or uncertainty comes.  We can trust him to bring us to attention. Both our intellect and our spirit will feel discomfort when we are about to make a mistake. He will provide us with guidance and understanding when we are attentive to the Holy Spirit. All we need to do is listen.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that you are the source of all truth and wisdom. I want to live in your perfect truth and direction for my life. I need your guidance today. Help me to be consistent in my daily life. Reveal the lies and deceit that would cause me to make bad decisions. Please help me to know you better. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Redeemer. Amen.
