Thought for the Day

1 Thessalonians 5:2 (New American Standard Bible)

2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.  3While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.  4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;  5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;  6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. (Self-controlled)

“The day of the Lord is at hand!” It seems that everywhere we turn, this message is going forth to warn us about the end time. The message is one of fear and trepidation.  Our enemy is doing everything he can to instill fear in the Sons of God. Many of the secular and religious elements of today spread fear and confusion upon God’s people with their distortions and prognostications.

God does not hide his plans from his people! God always reveals his plans to his “Chosen Remnant.” He tells us that we are children of light, with knowledge and understanding. We are not of the darkness. We will not be blinded or caught unprepared.

Surely, we know that we are living in the last days. Prophecies are being fulfilled almost daily, it seems. The signs of our Lord’s soon return are everywhere. The world conditions match the prophetic scriptures almost perfectly.

There is no need to fear!  God tells us that we are not children of wrath. His wrath and judgment is not going to fall upon his own family. It is the evil and ungodly who should fear in the midst of the great “Day of the Lord”. He will preserve, protect and provide for his own, just as he delivered Israel from Egypt into the Promised Land. He will provide His covering and protection to his faithful Remnant until he returns and takes charge.

Let us be alert and awake!  Our scripture for today reminds us to stay awake. It is not a time to grow tired and weary. It is not a time to sleep or slumber. It is a time for us to look up. Our redemption draws near. (Luke 21:28)  We should rejoice! Just as surely as the scriptures forecast our Lord’s birth, they now tell of his return. What an opportunity for us to be about our Fathers business and prepare for the return of our Lord and King. This is the time to prepare ourselves, to come into self-control and discipline. It is an opportunity for us the “Sons of Light” to share God’s plan of redemption with all who will listen.

Prayer: My most wonderful Heavenly Father, You are just and holy and perfect in all things. I know Jesus will return soon. I am so glad that He died for me and that his blood redeems me. Thank you for showing me my need for repentance and water baptism for the remission of sin. Help me to abide in your Spirit and be prepared.  Help me to do your work while there is still time. I look forward to your return and your perfect, unending government. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
