Thought for the Day

THE HIDING PLACE

Psalm 118:8-9   (New American Standard Bible)

8It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. 9It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

Are you looking for safety or shelter?

Perhaps the cares of this life and all its dangers have brought unrest or even fear upon you. Stability and security are very difficult to find. Nothing seems sure anymore.  We are certainly unable to depend upon our self-sufficiency to preserves us. A comfort zone of any kind is difficult for us to find.

The Lord is our refuge. He has proven himself faithful to all that live according to his Word. All of Israel was blessed and protected as she walked uprightly before the Lord.

God provided her need, protected her from her enemies, and won her battles. He does the same for his Remnant, today.

His promise was established in Jacob and fulfilled in Jesus.

Christians should not live in fear. God proved himself many times through out his dealings with Israel. He has made covenant with His Remnant, through Jesus Christ, to do the same for us.

We cannot lean on our own strength and wisdom. We spend so much time and effort struggling and worrying about our provision and safety. Much of our energy and resource is expended for self-preservation and sufficiency. God’s people have greater promise than this. Man and the abilities of men will surely fail us, but God never fails his own. We can trust in God to be our refuge.

His ability is unlimited. What peace we have when we walk under God’s covering. He has promised to supply our every need. His love and power overshadow us like a great eagle that covers her young with its wings. He has provided a great haven of safety for his entire kingdom. God calls:  “Come unto me—and I will give you rest”.

Take comfort.  He provides for his own. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man or kingdoms.   Let us turn to God. He will never fail us. Our Heavenly Father is our provision and strength. His abilities are unlimited; His love for us is without measure. He will preserve those of the House of Israel who put their trust in him. Let the chosen of the Lord rejoice. He is King of kings and gives refuge those who trust in him.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father Help me to reject fear and concern. Teach me to trust you for all my needs and safety. Please help me be strong in faith.  I want to trust in you, not others or myself. Thank you for being my refuge and strength. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen
