Thought for the Day

New Freedom

Romans 8:1    (New American Standard Bible)

1Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Each of us who have acknowledged Jesus as our Redeemer has an urgent desire to do the right thing. We long to please our Heavenly Father. We find a hunger to live righteously deep within our inner being.

Yet we find that the old sinful nature of the past cries out for satisfaction. The sins and unclean habits that we practiced before we repented pressure us for expression.

In fact, there is a war going on within us. We desire to live uprightly in our spirit only to find our sinful nature demanding to have rule over us. Though we try desperately to live beyond reproach, it seems very difficult to live without sin.

The sins of our past, those things God has already forgiven, sometimes haunt us. We can’t forget them and feel guilty and condemned.  The spirit of righteousness within us becomes depressed. Discouragement sets in. We are tempted to give up and return to our old ways under the law of sin and death.

The Apostle Paul faced this problem. He carefully evaluated his problem. The Holy Spirit gave the answer. (Romans 7:21-25). “There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.

Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. Those who have been redeemed are free from the bondage and guilt of the past. No longer does the guilt of sin and disobedience rule us. We have been changed and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live happy, sin free lives.

Jesus paid our debt to the law of sin and death for us. He gave himself as the perfect sacrifice to redeem his people. We are free! We are clean and without guilt in the sight of God. The bondage and guilt of the past is gone. The righteousness of Jesus has been imparted to us. Our Redemption is complete in Christ.

Let us reject the memories of the past and the guilt of our failures.

Rejoice! When we repented and were baptized for the remission of sins, God applied the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for our redemption.  We have been made new through the blood of Jesus. The past has been severed from us. It has no power over us. We have a brand new life free from the bondage of sin and death.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank you for setting redeeming me. Help me to remember that your Son paid my debt and set me free. My past is gone. Help me to live in righteousness as a true Son of God.
