Thought for the day

Where is My Refuge?

Psalm 73:25   (New American Standard Bible)

25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Sometimes we forget those things that are most important. Everyone has different values. Our priorities become diverse and distorted, according to our particular interests.

Those things that seem to be so very important often become fleeting elements that sink into the quicksand of instability.

Our nature cries out for stability and confidence. We want to build our lives on a solid foundation. Endless effort is spent on future comforts and security. We look for relationships that make us feel secure. A good job or career is very important to most.

Much of our ability and energy is used to bring some feeling of confidence about the future. We are determined to build a place of comfort and refuge, a barrier against trouble or disaster that might come upon us.

God does want us to use our ability and intelligence to live wisely. He expects us to make wise decisions, to use what we have carefully. Yet, we know that the best laid plans often collapse before us. We may work diligently, only to see our possessions and security melt away before our eyes.

There is a sure refuge! They ways of men will fail but God never does. David had a close relationship with our Heavenly Father. He had learned that all of his power and riches were useless. They could not protect or preserve him. David had learned that tangible possessions were very incapable of providing stability and protection. He knew that God had made special covenant and provision with his redeemed sons.

Refuge is in our Heavenly Father, Our security is found only in Him. Let us remember that there is nothing on this earth that is indestructible. Only God can preserve his own.

Be encouraged! Remember that God is the only thing in heaven and earth that really matters. He will watch over us. His supply has no limit. His love and compassion is beyond measure. God desires for us to acknowledge him as our refuge. He will provide our needs and cover us with his mantle of protection. He is the portion of our strength and refuge forever. Our Lord and Redeemer is forever true and faithful.  He welcomes His people with open arms. His refuge is indestructible.

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father, help me to stop living in fear. I know I cannot trust in the security of this world. I trust you to guide and protect me. I desire you more than all the ways of life on earth. Give me refuge and help me to walk in your covering. I pray in Jesus name. Amen
