Thought for the Day  #165

1 Samuel 17:36 New American Standard Bible

36 “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted the armies of the living God.”

Each of us has challenges in life that is greater than our ability.  We are sometimes so overwhelmed by the magnitude of our problems that we become fearful. Our fear robs us of great accomplishments in God’s ability and power.

David was not afraid.  The challenge of the Philistine giant had placed the entire army of Israel in paralyzing fear. They were looking at the situation according to the natural abilities of men. Their many deliverances of God had faded from memory. They were leaning on their own resources. The power and ability of God had been forgotten.

We, the house of Israel, face similar threats today. The taunting enemy stands before us with evil purpose and desire to destroy all of God’s people. Actually the enemy’s devices are no different than the Philistine’s defiance. We are challenged as a nation, a people, and as individuals, The same enemy that defied the power of Old Testament Israel stands against God’s people today. His defiance to the Sons of God may be cloaked in different garb but it is still the same. He attacks us with fear and lies. His threats are empty and powerless in the face of God.

Let us remember the works of God.   God has delivered us time and again from the enemy’s past attacks. He will do the same for us today. We simply need to find the courage to declare our position of power and authority through almighty God. Just as David said, “I killed the Lion and the Bear, I will also kill this uncircumcised Philistine.” We, too, can stand boldly against our enemies and bring them crashing to defeat. What we bind on earth has already been bound in heaven according to Matthew 16:19.

Take a stand! Declare it with courage! We need to walk in courage and faith. God will do the rest. God is simply waiting for us to declare Him and his Word. No enemy can stand before His mighty power.  Just as God has given us victory over the impossible challenges of the past, He will give us the victory today.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father. Bring the many victories that you have given me to my remembrance. I want to stand in courageous warfare against those forces that would defeat me. You are greater than any problem I am facing. I chose to claim your ability for my victory. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
