Thought for the Day # 166

Matthew 11:28   New American Standard Bible

28“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.

Are you tired, exhausted, or discouraged? The pressure of life and all its responsibilities are sometimes overwhelming. We live in an age filled with physical and mental demands never experienced in past generations. We face problems and pressures never before encountered. There is never enough time to accomplish the tasks and responsibilities of the day.  Weariness is entrenched in our aching bones. Our minds are exhausted. Our spirit is heavy laden with care and concern. This should not be! Our very nature drives us to carry our load, solve our problems and establish self-sufficiency. We feel compelled to “do it myself”.

Jesus recognized the limitations of human ability. He looks upon his people with compassion. He recognizes our struggle to fulfill our responsibilities, our laborious effort to do the right thing. Jesus came in the flesh that he might know the trials of our life and experience the pain and agony of daily living. He knows our every pain, our weariness, and our struggle to walk uprightly before our heavenly Father. The incapacity and limitations we experience are well known to Him.

God extends special ability to his people. We often make the mistake of taking all the care and responsibility of life upon ourselves. While we are expected to put forth an honest effort and use the abilities God has given us, we are not limited to our own sufficiency.  Jesus is saying simply “Let me, Jesus, Carry your load. I know that it is too heavy for you. Trust me. Come to me. I will give you rest.”

We are laborers with Him. He wants us to partner with him in the ordinary activities of daily life as well as the work of his ministry. Too often we forget to lean upon him. Let us be careful to include him every facet of our life.

Come to Jesus! Share with Him! Trust Him! We can cast all our burdens, anxieties, and care upon him because he cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7). He wants us to experience his strength and ability. He will give us that beautiful peace and rest that only He can provide.  Remember you are not alone!

Prayer: Dear Lord, God; You know my heart. Sometimes I am so weary and tired, I forget to come to you for rest and strength. Forgive me. Please help me to remember to come to you. I need your rest and comfort. Help me to include you in every part of my life. Thank you for your wonderful work of Redemption. I love you Lord. Thank you for redeeming me and establishing me as one of the Sons of God. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
