Thought For The Day # 182

Matthew 10:29-31 (New American Standard Bible)

29“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  30“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  31“So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

There are many reasons that we feel unworthy and of no value.  These feelings are especially common among those who are exposed to the mystery of God’s great love for his people.

Certainly, we have sinned against the Lord and failed him in many ways.  His holiness amplifies our unrighteousness.  Our shortcomings feel so huge that we are convinced we are of no value to God. We go about the day discouraged and defeated.  After all, no one knows us like we know ourselves.

What are we worth?  Jesus said: “Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows”.  This is just the beginning of understanding our value to God.

We are of such value that he made covenant with Abraham and all of the House of Israel. God continued to reveal our value in the New Covenant. He gave his only begotten Son to redeem us from our sin, pay for our judgment, and establish us as the Sons of God through the righteousness of Jesus.

Let us lift our hands and rejoice!  If He sees each sparrow that falls, He certainly is aware of everything that happens to us. We are the most important thing on the face of the earth in the eyes of God.  We are His redeemed children, the Sons of God.

There is no need to be afraid or discouraged. We can face the trials of the day with confidence. We have victory through our Lord. Let us trust him to lead us through every difficulty that confronts us.  May our hearts be filled with joy and praise.  It is a new day with opportunity to glorify His name.

My dear Heavenly Father, please help me to understand your love for me.  I never realized how valuable I am in your sight.  I repent of my sin and discouragement.  Help me to live uprightly with contentment each day.  I pray in Jesus name.  Amen.
