Thought for the day # 189

Proverbs 3:7-8  New American Standard Bible

            Do not be wise in your own eyes;

            Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

            It will be healing to your body

            And refreshment to your bones.”

Many Christians live in constant pain and suffering. They are overcome with one infirmity after another. One part of their body heals and almost immediately there is a problem somewhere else. Most are bewildered by these constant ailments. They are unaware that they may be responsible for their own sickness.

It is hard for us to believe that we would have any responsibility for our own infirmities. We don’t like to believe that our own actions contribute to our health and well being. The above scripture indicates that we do.

The secret to health and vigor is found in the words “Fear the Lord and turn away from evil”. The word “fear” means to give proper reverence and respect to God. Certainly, such action will cause us to turn from any evil or unwholesome ways that we may have.

We cannot give God proper reverence without also obeying his commands.   The directive of the Scriptures instructs us in right living. Evil and sin cannot exist in the presence of righteousness.

God has promised that the lifestyle of rejecting pride and self sufficiency while reverently turning to him will bring healing to our body and refreshment to our bones. He wants his people to be healthy and directed by his wisdom. He wants us to be whole and healthy.

Let us reject our wisdom and claim His promise. We can live in new health and strength everyday. He has also declared, “I am the God that heals you.”

Dear Heavenly Father, I want to claim this promise. I do not want to be puffed up with my own wisdom and pride. Forgive me for acting in my own self sufficiency. Help me to learn the secret of giving you proper reverence and respect. Restore health and vigor to me. I pray in Jesus name. Amen
