Thought for the day #192
1 Corinthians (New American Standard Bible)
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
Everyone faces temptation many times a day. Most of them are hardly apparent.
We simply reject them without too much thought. They hold no attraction to us and are immediately recognized as violating the standards of God.
From time to time, there are temptations which may be suttle, or perhaps very blatant in their presentation to us. They may overtake us, unaware. Or, they may be of such attractions that we dwell upon them with desire.
These situations attack us when we’re weak. In fact, we may feel powerless to resist them. Sometimes, we even blame God for allowing us to be exposed to them. In our weakness we present little resistance.
No temptation ever overtakes us that is different or more severe than what others have faced. They are all common to man.
God has promised that he will never allow us to be tempted beyond what were able to bear. He will always provide a way to escape without yielding to them.
The very fact that we are tempted certifies that we are strong enough to resist and have the ability in the Lord to remain strong and faithful without blemish.
The Holy Spirit will guide us into the way of righteousness and out of the hand of the enemy. God has promised that we can bear anything that comes our way. He will allow nothing to come against us that is greater than what we can endure.
Rejoice! We are able to say “No”, to resist in faith, and conquer every temptation with God’s help and strength.
Thank you Heavenly Father, for your promise to keep me from any temptation that is greater than I can resist. I ask you to help me see the attempts of the enemy to make me fall. Help me to always say “ No” to every temptation. Help me remember that I am strong enough to resist. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
