Thought for the Day # 198
Isaiah 49:16 (New American Standard Bible)
“Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.
Many times we of the House of Israel are overwhelmed with feelings of despair and loneliness. It seems there is no one with which to fellowship. Even our close friends and family members look upon us as being a little bit strange. They distance themselves from us, leaving us alone, often with ridicule and criticism. Sometimes, we may feel as though God himself has turned his back upon us.
Times of intense loneliness can be changed from moments of deep despair into experiences of victory and blessing.
God uses such occasions to communicate his love and concern to us. Often, we have opportunity to call upon him in an intimate spiritual relationship that is very special. It takes us into deeper understanding of ourselves. We glean deeper spiritual truths and understanding of His word.
These moments of loneliness provide opportunity for us to learn how to pray and to build our faith. They give us an occasion for self examination and evaluation of our relationship with the Lord. We learn to appreciate his fellowship and love.
We can turn our feelings of desperation and unworthiness into a time of spiritual growth and intimate fellowship with our Heavenly Father. Feelings of doom and gloom are replaced with the warmth of God’s caring devotion.
God has given us promise that he will never forget us. He has declared that our names are written in the palms of his hands. We and our problems are constantly before him. He stands with arms open to receive us with love and compassion.
Jesus experienced isolation and rejection that we will never know. He understands our loneliness and the pain that it brings. Let us rejoice that we’re counted worthy to suffer with him. We are never alone. He is always with us.
Dear Heavenly Father, help me to remember that my name is engraved in the palms of your hands. You have promised that you will never forsake or leave me. I want to grow closer to you. Help me to use these difficult times to grow in faith and understanding. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
