Thought for the day #202
THE GOD OF EVERY GENERATION
Psalm 119:90-91† New American Standard Bible
90††††††††† Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations;
††††††††††† You established the earth, and it stands.
91††††††††† They stand this day according to Your ordinances,
††††††††††† For all things are Your servants.
Each generation has a tendency to believe that God did more for past generations than for theirs. They act as though his power has diminished in their time of life.
We know that the covenants to His people never change. His promises to past generations are as valid today as they were then. The psalmist, David, acknowledges that His faithfulness continues throughout all generations.
David was aware that the earth had not moved from the position in which God placed it. The firmament remains established as God created it.† The laws of nature continue unchanged. After all of the ages, the proof of Godís stability is everywhere present.
The same faithful commitment and ability that God demonstrated to the generations of the past are still very valid today. We can place our faith in Him to fulfill all of His promises to us. Indeed, his faithfulness does continue throughout all generations.
Our enemy loves to cast doubt and fear upon us. He wants us to believe that God is not capable of ministry to us in the same ability extended to other generations. That is a lie. Godís word declares that he does not change. Hebrews 13: 8 certifies that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, to day, and forever.
David knew that all of the covenants and ordinances of God belong to his people. Let us establish that same assurance in our own heart. We see evidence of his abiding ability everywhere about us.
Surely, the God who keeps the stars in their place, the planetís rotating in the sphere of gravity he established, is able to keep his commitment to those who trust in him. Let us be of good courage and rejoice. His word is true, his promise everlasting. He faithfully cares for his own. His ordinances never change.
My Heavenly Father, forgive me for living in fear. Sometimes I doubt your presence. I feel like you are so far away. I am reminded that surely as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west each day, that it declares your power and your presence. Help me to remember that you are always with me. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
