Thought for the Day # 208
Proverbs 3:9-10††† (New American Standard Bible)
9†††††††††† Honor the LORD from your wealth
††††††††††† And from the first of all your produce;
†10†††††††† So your barns will be filled with plenty
††††††††††† And your vats will overflow with new wine.
One of the great mysteries of Godís covenant deals with our financial prosperity. Much is recorded in scripture concerning money, its virtues and pitfalls.
Some believe that poverty is somehow, a sign of holiness. Others teach that prosperity is a sign of Godís approval. Neither is true. Our spirituality is really determined by our obedience to His commandments.† Obviously, we live in a very tangible world that requires financial stability if we are to live productive lives.
Strangely enough, we often feel that God is only interested in our spiritual progress and development. We hear about living a righteous life, fleeing from temptation and sin, treating others as we would like to be treated, being a good witness, etc.
We seem to overlook the many promises in the scriptures that speak of Godís desire to bless his people financially. He has given specific promise to those who will follow his formula for tangible sufficiency.
God has required participation in his childrenís financial development. He has told us that the tithe of our increase belongs to him.† He has determined that if we give him his portion, he will cause the remainder to bring forth abundant increase. Abraham paid tithe. It was part of Godís covenant with him.
Certainly, Solomon, in all his wisdom, knew the secret of tangible prosperity. He shared the formula for receiving Godís blessing upon the fruit of our labor.† It is as recorded above. We received more explicit instruction in activating this formula in the book of Malachi.
10ďBring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,Ē says the LORD of hosts, ďif I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until £it overflows. 11ďThen I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes,Ē says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:10-11
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be blessed and prospered by you. Help me to be faithful in giving and you the tenth of my increase. I trust your promise. Remind me to be consistent in following through with my actions. Forgive me for sometimes failing to keep your covenant.† I pray in Jesusí name. Amen.
