Thought for the day #214
Deuteronomy 33:27-28 (New American Standard Bible)
“The eternal God is a dwelling
place, and underneath are the everlasting arms; and He drove out the enemy from
before you, And said, ‘Destroy!’ “So
There is nothing quite as precious as the warm security of home. We feel comfortable and protected; at peace in our surroundings. It is a place to withdraw from the attack of the enemy; a place to relax and renew our strength after a hard day of battle.
Our earthly dwelling may be very humble or elegant, or perhaps it is considered to be modest but comfortable. Regardless, it is home; representing the creature comforts and security that we all enjoy. Nevertheless, it is temporary at best. Catastrophe can destroy it within a few moments. We need something better.
We have it! The eternal God is our dwelling place. His strong, everlasting arms form the foundation. He stabilizes our life, fights our battles and provides the necessities of life. He empowers us with authority and ability to conquer our enemies. And so it is that we, of the House of Israel dwell in comfort and security in the midst of conflict.
He will drive out our enemy before us, just as He did in the days of old. Rejoice; His abiding presence is like a great wall of fire roundabout us. The enemies cannot penetrate it. They are helpless against Almighty God who watches over his own.
Be encouraged. We are secure and protected in the mighty fortress of God’s abiding presence. He goes before us, preparing the way. The power to utterly destroy our enemies abides in Him. We are firmly entrenched in the pavilion of his love. Our enemy must retreat. He cannot stand against the mighty power of God.
Fear not! Our circumstances will not overcome us. We are hidden in the mighty fortress of Almighty God. His great arm of strength and ability protects and keeps us. Surely His enemies flee before us. May we boldly pursue and destroy them with the authority of His Word and the power of His might.
Dear Almighty God, forgive me for living in fear. Sometimes I forget you’re awesome power. My abilities are so weak and frail. I’ve become intimidated by my raging enemies. Give me bold faith and confidence. Help me to prevail. I want to find rest in your dwelling place. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
