Thought for the Day #235
WATCH THE COMPANY YOU KEEP
2 Timothy 3:1† (New American Standard Bible)
But realize this that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
Do you have a difficult time living a Gody life? Many Christians do. They try to be faithful, endeavoring to walk uprightly before God. Always failing, they become discouraged, soon to be overtaken by the desires of their carnal, fleshly nature.
As Christians, we have begun a new life, free from the bondage of sin and death. The friends and associates that we keep can be a great hindrance to a happy, victorious life in Christ. It is urgently important that we carefully choose those in our circle of fellowship.
The Bible tells us that we live in the world, but are not to be a part of it. (2 Corinthians 6:17) Ungodly people do have influence upon those around them. The above Scripture identifies them to be avoided, warning us of their destructive influence.
It is very difficult to have a lifestyle acceptable to God unless we sever close ties with those who do not serve Him. Their negative influence will make a Godly life difficult, eventually eroding our faith and commitment to Him.
We cannot escape their presence.† The activities of life make it impossible to ignore their influence. We are surrounded by the ungodly in every facet of life. What are we to do?
The Scripture says to avoid them. We can reject their desire to have close participation in our activities. We must not enter into partnership with them. We cannot casually approve their lifestyle by accepting their fellowship.
Choose your friends and associates wisely. Donít allow the enemy opportunity to establish a foothold in your personal fortress.
Dear Heavenly Father, Help me to have the courage and wisdom to choose my friends wisely. I realize that ungodly associates as described in your Word are not my friends.† I need your help. I ask the Holy Spirit help me to separate myself from their influence. I thank you. I pray in Jesusí name.
