Thought for the Day #237
John 8:32, 34-36 New American Standard Bible
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” 34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
We hear much about freedom today. Man goes to great effort to obtain it. We pay great sacrifices, fight wars, make laws, and do anything else that we think will preserve our liberties.
Yet, every day the freedoms that we have had since the foundations of our country are eroded before are very eyes. It seems that the more we do, the less we have. The more we struggle, the more burdened we become.
The biggest loss of freedom ever to be experienced came upon us when Adam sinned. The laws of sin and death were established. Held in bondage, we could not free ourselves. Joy and peace were ripped away. Death replaced eternal life.
Then Jesus came! Jesus, the only begotten son of God established truth. He shattered the lying deceit of our enemy, Satan. The loving commitment of our Heavenly Father was revealed to all who would hear. Ttruth shall make you free
Jesus the Christ, came to buy us out of bondage and a set us at liberty. God had promised to break the bondage of sin upon his people. Jesus paid the ultimate price that we might have life and have it more abundantly.
He set us free from the bondage of sin and death. He gave us eternal life, peace that passes understanding and joy unspeakable and full of glory. No oppressor can crush it. No thief can steal it. No power can control it. Truth has set us free.
Absolute freedom belongs to those who walk in the knowledge and truth of Almighty God. Pressures and hardships of every dimension may confront us, but nothing can conquer the Spirit of those who put their trust in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.
No longer are we a slave to sin! We are Sons of God living in revealed truth. Indeed, the son has made this free and we are free indeed.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I am often discouraged with the pressures and bondage that I face daily. I often feel helpless and alone. Discouragement flees when I remember your truth. Please help me to remember the great victory and eternal life that Jesus gives me. I play in Jesus name, Amen.
