Thought for the Day #246
†THE CLINGING BRANCH
John 15:4-5††† The Holy Bible, King James Version
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. †5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Self-sufficiency is a good thing. We are told.† It's nice not to have to depend on anyone else.† Making one's own decisions and relying on one's own ability can be very satisfying.
We like to feel independent, free from others' restraint.
The problem with this is that we are limited in our abilities.† We have minimal strength.† Our knowledge and wisdom is very suspect.† Decision-making is a struggle, oftentimes disastrous.† Natural ability leaves us very inadequate in establishing a happy life.
The secret to genuine victorious living is found in the abilities of our Lord.† He reminds us that everything we are, our †very life,† is dependent on him.† Jesus is our very source of life itself.
We can never bear fruit, and be productive in our Christian life through our own abilities.† We must become a clinging branch attached firmly to the spiritual vine, Jesus the Christ.† He is the source of everything that we need.
As we learn to cling close to him, we draw both spiritual and physical strength.† His abilities, knowledge, and wisdom flow into us, easily. We draw nourishment for our own spiritual life, and strength for our physical needs.† He sustains and keeps us nourished and strong.
Discouragement and weaknesses is often a part of our daily strife.† Temptation to give up is very real.† Anger and disobedience become a part of our lifestyle.† These things separate us from† Jesus, our Lord. Failure becomes a daily experience.
Become a clinging branch, anchored firmly in the vine, and you will draw supernatural ability and strength.† The life and abilities of Jesus will flow into you.† Nothing, other than yourself can ever separate you from him. You will produce much fruit.
Almighty God, I'm guilty of trying to do things my way, and in my ability.† I often become discouraged and frustrated.† I forget that you are my source of strength.† Please forgive me for separating myself from you.† I want to cling firmly to you.† Please nurture and strengthen me.† I want to be a fruit bearing branch.† I pray in Jesusí name.† Amen.
