Thought for the Day #253

THE LORD IS MY DEFENSE

Psalm 27:1-3    (New American Standard_

1              The LORD is my light and my salvation;

            Whom shall I fear?

            The LORD is the defense of my life;

            Whom shall I dread?

2           When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh,

            My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.

3           Though a host encamp against me,

            My heart will not fear;

            Though war arise against me,

            In spite of this I shall be confident.

We are all confronted from every side with the attacks of the enemy.  Life is a battle.  It is filled with difficulties, challenges and entrapments.  No matter how hard we try, we find opposition to be intense and unrelenting.

We must be very careful to avoid the trap of fighting our own battles. It is so very tempting to strike back at those who would maim and cripple us. Those who are against us are many.  They delight in opposing the children of God.

The devil and all of his agents are very determined to destroy the entire Kingdom of God. They work through lying deceit, divisions, false accusations and impersonations. They are vicious and without compassion. Their motives are dark and evil.

David had found the secret of survival. When he wrote the above passage, he knew his God was light and life.  He knew that he was the Almighty with consuming power and strength.  The magnitude of His ability was so great that no other power could stand against him.

He knew the delivering power of Almighty God.  Aware that "He that is within is greater than he that is without,” David rested in him with great confidence.

David's God is our God.  He will do the same for us as he did for David.  Be not afraid, neither fret nor worry. Surely, our Lord will deliver, preserve and keep us, just as he did David. Be not afraid.  Be of good courage.  Our God is with us.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to have the faith and confidence as David did.  Tell me be strong and my faith.  I don't want to walk in fear or worry about the enemy's attacks.  Strengthen my faith, O God.  Teach me to confront the enemy with holy boldness.  I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
