Thought for the day #256

1 Peter 5:5    (New American Standard Bible)

5You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,

Pride is one of the most tenacious tentacles of the law of sin and death. It has no boundaries.  Both the poor and the rich, the young and the old, are susceptible to its corruption.

The foundation of self-righteousness, pride corrupts and distorts the purest of hearts.  Its stench permeates everything around it. Those caught in its grip are unable to function in sound judgment. Their inflated ego soon leads them into bad decisions, total rejection, and eventual destruction.

The Christian must remember that we are preserved and kept through the grace of God.  Everything that we have, everything that we are, is extended unto us by our loving, Heavenly Father.

Our very life is provided through Jesus Christ, who humbled himself to become sin for us, that we might be redeemed through his sacrifice at the cross.

Unclean and corrupt in spirit, we have been forgiven much. Anything that is positive and good, pure and wholesome, abundant or victorious is by the grace of Almighty God through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Surely, God is against the proud and blesses the humble.  Let us take on the nature of our Lord Jesus, considering ourselves to be of little value when limited to our own abilities.

God will exalt us, giving us high honor and blessing at the proper time.

Oh, Lord God, I acknowledge your glory and power.  Forgive me for sometimes acting arrogant and prideful.  I realize that I'm nothing without your provision.  Help me give you honor and praise.  I wish to walk in humility before you and my fellow man. Help me to lose my sinful pride. Help me to clothe myself in true humility.  I pray in Jesus name.  Amen.
