Thought for the day #259

SUSTAINING STRENGTH

Daniel 10:19     (New American Standard Bible)

19He said, “O man of high esteem, do not be afraid. Peace be with you; take courage and be courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”

Almost everyone is seeking strength.  We live in an age of intense pressure, and responsibility.  Our energy is expended long before daily obligations are met.

Many arise from restless sleep as exhausted when going to bed. Drained both emotionally and physically, they force themselves to confront the daily challenges. Their spirit longs for just one moment of peace and rest.  Weary exhausted, they accept it as a way of life.

Our heavenly Father recognizes our frailties and weakness.  The prophet Daniel was in such a situation as he was confronted by the angel of the Lord.  The vision that Daniel had beheld caused his strength to flee from him.  He was over come with anguish and concern.

The angel touched his lips and restored his strength.  Fear of his weakened condition departed.  He stood before the angel with renewed strength.  Now able to receive the instruction of God, he urged the angel to speak and reveal the word that God wanted him to know.

God wants his people to be energized and equipped to do his ministry.  Just as he strengthened Daniel, he will strengthen us.  We can depend upon his ability and sustaining power to keep us in perfect peace.

Turn to Him, declare your frailty and ask for his under girding strength.  He will extend it to you without measure.  The Holy Spirit will instill strength, providing wisdom and ability.

Courage will surge within.  Fear will depart.  Your incapacity will vanish in the presence of ability. You will accomplish His purpose.  Like Daniel, you can declare “May my Lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am frail and weak.  Strength has failed me.  Weariness overwhelms me.  I am discouraged.  Let your strength flow into me now and renew my spirit within. I pray in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
