Thought for the day #264

Colossians 1:13-14    (New American Standard Bible)

13For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

What a wonderful truth! God has set us free from the bondage of darkness. The law of sin and death that we inherited from birth has been broken.

This verse speaks of the domain of darkness. “Domain” is another name for  Kingdom. It may be hard to believe that we were born into a Kingdom of darkness filled with evil and ungodliness. Yet, it is true.

We were in bondage as a slave. The power of sin and darkness held us bound helplessly to an evil taskmaster, Satan and his kingdom.

We were hopelessly trapped. We could not free ourselves. There was no deliverance, unless someone rescued us. Then--- Jesus came!

He rescued us from our bondage, defeated the power of our slave master, and set us free. He loosed us from the Kingdom of darkness, and gave us new citizenship in the Kingdom of God.

We were transferred from citizenship in Satan's domain to eternal life and membership in the Kingdom of God. Jesus rescued us, restored us, and transformed us into a new creation of righteousness.

He redeemed us (bought us back) from death and destruction. He forgave our sin and restored our citizenship.

All the privileges of the children of God are ours. He has given us new covenant and birthright. We shall rule and reign with him forever. Praise his holy name!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus, your only begotten son, to suffer and die for me. Thank you for setting me free from the domain of darkness. I want to be a good citizen in your Kingdom. Help me to walk in your Spirit, and live a pure, righteous life. I want to be a worthy member of your body. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
