Thought for  the Day #265

Joshua 24:15    (New American Standard Bible)

15“If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

What god are you serving? There are many gods today, just as  in the days of Joshua.

They take many forms, but they have the same characteristics of Babylon, as they did in the Old Testament days.

There is the financial god. Money becomes the most important thing in one's life. Then there is the possessions god. He's the one that causes us to compete with all of our friends to see who can amass the most of this world's goods.

There's the sports god. This one demands that we worship the sports idols and their games. It demands that sports entertainment becomes the priority in our life. Those in bondage to this god often neglect everything else, especially their family, to worship their sports teams and heroes.

The social god demands that one compromises integrity and moral standards. How important are the latest social trends and clothing styles to you?

Then, of course, there's the religious gods. They demand that you compromise the truth of God's word, and his righteous standards. Contaminated doctrines of modernistic religiosity and the acceptance of all other religions being equal, is demanded. Anything else brings rejection and ridicule to the true Christian.

There are multitudes of other gods, too numerous to mention. Remember that anything that is more important than the only true God becomes another god to us.

Its decision time! Can you, like a Joshua, boldly declare before the entire world that you and your house will serve the Lord, regardless of what anyone else does?

A strong stand in such a declaration of faith may isolate you. Persecution and need may come your way. But the blessings of Almighty God will be your portion, and eternal life will be your destiny. God is always faithful to those who serve him.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I know that sometimes I get caught in the ways of the world. Its systems and standards tempt me to compromise my relationship with you.P

Please forgive me. Help me keep your statutes and moral principles. Like Joshua, I pledge that me and my house will serve you faithfully. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
