Thought for the Day #267

Proverbs 15:29    (New American Standard Bible)

29          The LORD is far from the wicked,

But He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Does God hear you?

How many times have you prayed and sought the Lord diligently, only to discover that you received no answer.

God has set certain standards by which he is to be approached. One of those standards is righteousness.

Yes, Jesus died and rose again that we might have eternal life. We know that the shedding of his blood cleanses us from sin. And, yes, we walk in the righteousness of Christ, because of his redeeming work.

The Bible says “He, who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

Therefore, the Christian, though redeemed and cleansed through the blood of Jesus, can deliberately do the wrong thing, even though one knows it's wrong. Deliberate wrongdoing is in violation of God's will. It is sin. It can separate us from his fellowship.

When we have unanswered prayer, and receive a continual reminder of our misdeeds, the Holy Spirit may be convicting us of our sin. God is simply indicating the need to get our life in order so that he might answer our prayers.

We are not to conclude that this is the only reason God does not answer us. But, it is a likely cause when we know we have done wrong and not repented.

Sin always separates us from the fellowship of the Lord.

It is very important to forsake the way of the wicked and to continually walk in the path of righteousness. You will find your prayers answered much more quickly. He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Prayer: Dear God, forgive me for refusing to turn away from my sin. I know better than to do that which is wrong. Sometimes, I do it anyway. Please help me to turn from the ways of the wicked and walk in your righteousness. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen
