Thought for the Day #299

Joel 2:26-27    (New American Standard Bible)

26          “You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied

            And praise the name of the LORD your God,

            Who has dealt wondrously with you;

            Then My people will never be put to shame.

27          “Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel,

            And that I am the LORD your God,

            And there is no other;

            And My people will never be put to shame.

We live in an age where there is strife and trouble on every hand. Discouragement prevails. Feelings of helplessness and uncontrollable destiny can overwhelm us.

These prophetic words of Joel remind us that we surely are approaching the coming of the Lord. Here, he prophesies of the day when King Jesus will take charge of this earth.

The anguish and pain of everyday life will evaporate into the bliss of total sufficiency, provided by the coming King. Sin and death will be destroyed. Peace and righteousness will be forever established.

The whole world will acknowledge the power and authority of our Lord and Redeemer. We shall rule and reign with Him as kings and priests. All creation will declare his deity. They shall acknowledge the validity of Israel, because He is established in her midst.

Let us rejoice and be glad. He shall return soon, and we shall be justified in all the earth. His grace and strength will sustain us until then, and we shall be full and satisfied. Praise His holy name.

Dear God Almighty, I must confess that sometimes the trials of life overwhelm me. My faith waivers and my hope grows dim. Forgive me for my shortsightedness and help me to remember your promises. I long for your soon return and a perfect earth in which to live. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and Redeemer, the King of Israel. Amen.
