Thought for the Day #302
MY SINS ARE GONE
12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust. Ps 103:12-14 (RSV)
Many Christians cannot forget their past. They live a life of shame and remorse. Discouragement rules their spirit. Self-esteem is lost. This is exactly how the devil wants them to feel. He wants everyone to feel unworthy and worthless.
It is not what God wants his people to experience. Instead, he reassures us with the precious truth of his love and compassion. He wants us to be free from guilt and condemnation.
The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin. Everyone who repents and is baptized as recorded in the book of Acts 2:38, has been washed clean. Every sin is gone. We are given new life (new birth, born-again), because the only begotten Son of God offered himself in our behalf.
Our past is totally erased from the memory of God. He will never remember it against us anymore. It is removed from us as far as the east is from the west. Remember, one can go west and never meet the east, or one can go east and never meet the west. That is a lot of separation.
Why then, let your sin of the past haunt your memory? You are a new creature in Jesus Christ. You're not the same person you were. You have been made new. Your sin has been removed. You record has been cleared. You have a new beginning through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
Turn your back upon the past and concentrate on serving the Lord in righteousness and truth. Let His Spirit lead you. He will fulfill the work he has begun in you.
He knows you're very nature and all of your weaknesses. His compassion is sufficient. He accepts the righteousness of Jesus as your own. Rejoice, and be glad.
Dear Lord God in heaven, I am haunted by the sins of my past. I feel so condemned and guilty. Thank you for showing me that my sins are gone, never to be remembered against me. Help me to reject Satan's condemning accusations. I want to live joyfully in my newfound righteousness through Jesus my Lord. I pray in his holy name. Amen
