Thought for the Day #320

Philippians 4:8-9 (New American Standard Bible)

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

Have you ever noticed how much negative thinking that you do?

The world around us is filled with troublesome situations.  We are constantly confronted with everything that is wrong. Everywhere we turn, the fear mongers are shouting their miserable message.

Everything we breathe, eat, or drink is going to kill us. The financial world is going to collapse. We are all going to die prematurely by one of the multiple diseases that lurk in the shadows. If that doesn't destroy us, then we will starve to death or die of thirst.

Well, you get the idea. The panderers of fear want us thinking negatively, paralyzed by all kinds of worry and turmoil.

God tells us to think on those things that are positive, things that are just and fair, beautiful and lovely; are are to look upon those things which are pure and filled with goodness. We are to dwell on that which would cause us to rejoice and be filled with praise in our hearts.

Reject those things that always keep you upset. Dwell upon that which is positive. Those who walk in faith have nothing to fear. God is the source of perfect peace and tranquility. He will surround us with those good things of which we think.

Almighty God, I thank you for all the things that you do for me. I am constantly confronted with worry and fear. My heart is filled with care and concern about things I can't control. I know that this is wrong. Strengthen my belief and faith.

Help me to discipline myself; to think only on wholesome things.  I really do want to walk in the peace that only you can give. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
