Thought for the Day #324

PROLONGING YOUR DAYS

Deut 5:1 (New American Standard Bible)

Then Moses summoned all Israel, and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I am speaking today in your hearing, that you may learn them and observe them carefully.

NAS

Deut 5:31-33

32 "So you shall observe to do just as the LORD your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall

possess.

Our human nature causes us to make decisions that are based in carnal desire, rather than the wisdom of God. We have a tendency to strain against restrictive edicts. They may be man made or God made, it really makes little difference.

This is an independent attitude of rebellion that breeds destruction in many forms. Our human instincts (lusts of the flesh) lead us into a false sense of ability. We are so sure that we can handle life within ourselves. We have no need for counsel or instruction from others. After all, I know whatís best for me, we say in our distorted thinking.

Godís way is the only way that will bring good results. His wisdom is far beyond ours. He has reason to have given statues for us to obey. He knows our heart is extremely deceitful. Our wisdom is deficient, and our motives are not always pure.

His commandments are as applicable today as they were for Old Israel. The one who abides in the Word of God, follows his directives and accepts the leading of His Holy Spirit, will find abundant life.

Learn the instruction of the Lord. You will have a happy and fulfilled life as you let Godís wisdom motivate your decisions. He wants the very best for his Children. He loves you us very much. His way may not always seem best to us, but it is. Trust Him. Obey Him.

Your life will be prolonged and much more fulfilling, too.

Prayer:

Dear Lord God in Heaven. I know that I strain at your ordinances. I have a hard time submitting to your directives. I know that I am disobedient at times. I want to do my ďthingĒ and not yours. Forgive me I pray. I yield my will to you, Lord. Let your will be done in my life instead of mine. I pray in the name of Jesus, your only begotten son. Amen
