Thought for the day #325

Philippians 4:5-8 (New American Standard Bible)

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

Multitudes of thought bombard us every day. There are times when those thoughts are good and pure. On other occasions, they are sometimes disturbing to our Spirit.

Of course, everyone is faced with unwholesome imaginations and thought that Satan constantly hurls at us. Most people battle frustrating thoughts of one kind or another. No one is exempt. Satan loves to play mind games with us.

You may ask "what can I do about this." Perhaps, like many others, you have found it difficult to focus on positive and pure thoughts. Memories of a sinful past or yesterday's failures and discouragements haunt you.

As a Christian, you can call upon the Holy Spirit of the living God, to help you. He promises to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The great secret of keeping one's mind focused where it should be, is understanding that we can only think upon one thing at once. We can discipline ourselves to turn the focus of unwholesome thought away by immediately choosing to think upon those things which are good.

Look particularly at the verse number eight above. Determine to keep your mind upon all the good and positive things in your life. Dwell upon the things of God. Refuse to be drawn into unwise thought or conversation, and trust the Holy Spirit to help you.

You will be amazed to find how easy it is to live with a clean mind and peaceful spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you feeling somewhat guilty. My mind is constantly filled with impure and negative thoughts. Please forgive me. I hate the awful feeling that they cause. Cleanse me Oh God, and make me pure. Help me to think upon the things that will nurture and strengthen me. I want a clean,  wholesome mind. I pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
