Thought for the Day #329
6 And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. 9 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Every new parent has emotions ranging from great joy to penetrating fear. After waiting patiently for the arrival of their newborn, sheer excitement overwhelms them with great anticipation. The thrill of cuddling and nurturing the new arrival is beyond description.
Sooner or later, the awesome feeling of responsibility begins to permeate our thoughts.
Will I be a good parent? How will I know what to do in any given situation? How can I train my baby to be a good child? What must I do to keep it healthy? Etc.
Grandparents relive the birth of their own children. Looking back and yet forward at the same time, recalling emotions and questions as new parents, they ponder “What can I do to be a good grandparent? How can I assist my children in guiding this new child through life?”
God gives us the answer! He has set the standards for rearing a family. Both parents and grandparents must diligently teach the word of God and his statutes to our offspring.
Our first responsibility is to set a Godly example before them. Then, we are to teach His word to our children every day. The statutes of God are to be front and center in our life. They should be so obvious that the young innocent child can be influenced as they watch us function in our daily responsibilities.
Every parent is to give diligent instruction in the ways of the Lord. They are to be instilled in their child's heart and mind every day. Teach them early in the morning, throughout the day, and at bedtime. These things should be so visible in every thing about us that our children are constantly saturated with the standards of the Lord.
Be an example. Teach diligently. Pray fervently. The Holy Spirit will make it happen. Live a holy life before the Lord and your children will bless you.
Heavenly Father, we come to you for your guidance. We want to raise our children to abide in your statutes. I want them to have an awesome respect for you, Oh God. Help me to be a good example of Christian living. Give me wisdom and knowledge to instruct them in your ways. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
