Thought for the Day #334

1 Peter 3:8-12 (New American Standard Bible)

8 To sum up, let all be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil, or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For, "Let him who means to love life and see good days Refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile. 11 "And let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 "For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And His ears attend to their prayer, But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

It is very easy to fall into the attitudes of those round about us. We live in an age of selfishness. Everyone seems to think of themselves first, and others last, if they consider them at all. Malice and revenge are often motivating factors in our conduct toward others. This should not be.

As Christians, we must consider others. Whether they have particular needs or embrace different ideas than our own, we are to walk in unity and one accord. Remember your responsibility as brethren; we are to be considerate of one another.

Instead of finding fault with others in the kingdom of God, we should be careful to never speak evil against brothers, or have ill feelings in our heart toward them. We are reminded that we must forgive others, just as God has forgiven us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer.

Many Christians are denied God's blessing because of a critical spirit toward other children of God. They not only speak evil against them, but refuse to forgive. We will find it easier to forgive others when we remember how much God has forgiven us.

Work together with other believers in a spirit of unity and one accord and you will be amazed at the new level of blessing, peace and joy that fills your life. Much is accomplished when God's people work together in one accord. The cord of God's love binds us together in power and authority against the enemy. Satan can find no crevice in the body of Christ to do his dirty work. Let us learn to forgive and be blessed.

My Heavenly Father, I know that I am sometimes critical of others in your Kingdom. I do want to return the evil that they have done to me. Forgiving them is very difficult for me. I know that this is wrong. Please forgive me. I really do want your blessing. Help me to control my tongue and remove the bitterness from my heart. Help me to be a happy person who is content to work in harmony with others of your Kingdom. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
