Thought for the Day #256

Mark 16:16 (New American Standard Bible)

16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.”

There are hundreds of cults throughout the land today. Each of them claims to have some difficult formula for man to purge himself from sin and obtain eternal life.

The more complicated and difficult the formula, the more followers they seem to have. What deceitful lies they conjure up.  No man can save himself or earn his way into eternal life. It is a gift that only Almighty God can extend.

How much easier can it be?  Jesus gave us a very simple, easy to perform directive by which we can have eternal life.

Jesus said “believe and be baptized and you shall be saved! “

There is no easier way; in fact, there is no other way, to inherit eternal life.  We must believe what Jesus said, and respond to instruction given us in Acts 2:38.

“And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Man’s carnal nature has been searching for ways to improve himself since Adam and Eve. He devises all kinds of philosophies and creeds to impose hardship upon himself and anyone who will listen, all in vain.

Every human being is under the servitude of death and sin. Man can not extricate himself from that bondage.  There is only one savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.

Isn’t it time to follow the simple instructions that he gave? Simply believe and be baptized and you shall be saved.

Dear Heavenly Father, I have struggled with religion and various philosophies. I have found only confusion and uncertainty. I’ve tried to become holy, and pure through my own deeds only to become entrenched in discouragement and despair.  Forgive me, oh God.   I know I need to surrender to the urging of your Spirit and obey your command to “believe and be baptized.”  I turn to you for my deliverance from the bondage of sin in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord.  Amen.
