Thought for the Day #375

Psalms 104:33 (New American Standard Bible

"I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being."

Singing is one of the greatest tools God has given us for waging war against the enemy.

One of the greatest detriments to peace and tranquility comes from emotional stress which produces discouragement, depression and fear.  Our society is overwhelmed with these emotions.  We become disarmed and ineffective in our daily activities by the intense oppression that settles upon us.

Many of those affected turn to numerous drugs (pharmaceuticals) to either dull their feelings or artificially lift them into a state of hyper activity.  We have been led to believe that these chronic emotions are either a psychological or physical infirmity which cannot be overcome without outside assistance.

Actually, these symptoms are often a matter of choice on our part.  Of course, there are exceptions.  You may resent this statement, but if we would respond according to knowledge instead of being ruled by the feelings that we may be experiencing at the moment, we could quickly change our emotional structure.

The psalmist David, discovered early in his life, that singing unto the Lord was a powerful instrument in overcoming the despondency that comes with the pressures of life.  The above Scripture illustrates David's determination to sing unto the Lord.  It was a matter of choice. He said I will sing.

Let us be encouraged in our spirit and determined to sing and give praise unto Almighty God regardless of our emotional stress.

One who sings unto the Lord will quickly discover the sweet and peaceful presence of the Holy Spirit who refreshes with a quiet assurance and confidence. Our Heavenly Father looks upon our effort as a sacrifice of praise and quickly responds to our need.

Yes, we can actually break the bondage of discouragement and depression by choosing to sing unto our Lord and glorify his name in song.

Almighty God in heaven, I do feel the spirit of oppression and discouragement very often.       I claim the secret of David. I choose to free myself from this emotional prison by singing and glorifying your name.

Help me dear God, to lift my voice and sing your praise.  Put a song in my heart that I do not feel, and lift my faith to find rest and peace in your presence.  Surely you are holy and righteous and deserve to be praised.  Renew the spirit within me as I choose to praise your name.  I pray in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Redeemer.  Amen.
