Thought for the Day # 379

LET US GLORY IN THE LORD

“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”

(Jeremiah 9:24   KJV)

Our selfish pride often gets us in trouble.  Arrogance and self righteousness are commonplace in our carnal nature. We revel in our accomplishments, boast about our importance, and praise ourselves for whatever victory we assume to have attained.

In general, our carnal flesh is prone to put us on a pedestal, making us obnoxious and repulsive to those roundabout us. We often become so enamored with our personal importance that we fall into Satan’s trap of false security.  Not only do we glory in ourselves, we thrive upon the praise of others.

Perhaps you’ve heard the statement: “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Psalms 16:18).

Remember that we can accomplish nothing in our own ability. We are totally dependent upon the grace and mercy of Almighty God. Our health, our strength, even the breath that we breathe, is granted unto us moment by moment through Him.

Let us remember to give our Lord glory and praise for everything that we accomplish in our daily life. But for Him, we would not even exist. Our inadequacy would overwhelm our abilities. The net result: failure.

Rejoice in the Lord. Give Him praise for your accomplishments. Rejoice in His perfect judgment and His blessings extended, when we serve him. Give all glory to God and praise him for his faithfulness. Delight yourself in his presence as you walk in genuine humility and appreciation for his grace and mercy.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, sometimes I get caught up with my own self importance. I lean upon my own understanding and seek the praise of others for my accomplishment. I am guilty of stealing your glory and establishing myself through self righteousness.

Forgive me dear Lord and cleanse me from my sin. I realize that my self righteousness is as filthy rags in your nostrils. I reject my haughty spirit and arrogance. Fill me with your holiness and purge me from every unwholesome thought and deed. I choose to give You honor, glory, and praise for everything that I am and that I accomplish. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Redeemer. Amen
